The Franklin

As restaurant owners and managers, we feel a sense of responsibility for the health and well-being of our employees, our guests, and the community at large. A desire to provide hospitality—the simple act of caring for our guests—is why many of us joined this industry to begin with.

Alongside many other establishments in our industry, we are committed to upholding the guidelines set forth by the State of Michigan, local Health Departments, and the CDC. We view them not as infringements on our rights, but rather precautions we can all take to allow for our industry to re-open safely for our staff and our guests. In return, we ask for your commitment to carefully follow the guidelines posted in our establishments and communicated to you by our team members.

We invite you to read our pledge and to learn how you can best support each of us in our desire to stay safe for all.

Cheers!

The power of #community is an amazing thing. When Chef Myles dedicated himself to cooking for Goodwill during the shutdown, members of the community jumped in with donations of food, money and time. One of the most significant and impactful donations came from @fordinsuranceagency who has served our company well for many years. Dave Ford pledged a day’s worth of operating expenses and sought additional support from members of his own circle. His large donation was matched by yet more members of the community, which enabled incalculable support to underserved neighbors in need. Thank you, Dave!

The Franklin

Crowds of happy people out and enjoying great food, drink and service. It exemplifies the reason that we got in the restaurant business in the first place. We have spent our professional lives working toward growing a team of like minded people to give real hospitality to our guests. It is our passion and our profession.

Yesterday we learned that we are able to open up our doors to dining in limited capacity effective May 22. If it were as simple as turning the spigot on the "hospitality faucet" back on, in a limited capacity, we certainly would do so.

Unfortunately, there are other factors to add to the equation. The safety and health of our staff and guests is first and foremost. The economic realities of quickly rising food prices and actual food scarcity are another. The financial realities of trying to run a business on 1/3 to 1/2 of the income with many of the expenses not adjusting to that fact. We are working hard to figure all of these things out.

Our big sister, Trattoria Stella, just opened for carryout business (link in bio). We encourage our loyal guests to enjoy the at-home Stella experience we have created. The dining room and bar will remain RESERVATION ONLY for the foreseeable future with slightly more limited offerings from the kitchen, bar and cellar. We are developing practices that are both safe for everyone and transferrable to The Franklin when that is possible.

Until then...We all want to be back in full swing as much as you’d like us to be!

Be safe!
