It’s True – They Are Back! The U.S. Navy Blue Angels To Headline the 88th National Cherry Festival Opening Weekend July 5 and 6 Flying Over West Grand Traverse Bay
The National Cherry Festival held in the Cherry Capital of the World, Traverse City, Michigan is on the ‘Official U.S. Navy Blue Angles’ Roster of events. The Blue Angels will kick off the Festival’s 88th annual celebration with a highly anticipated, patriotic 4th of July weekend return visit by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. The Festival Air Show will take to the sky on Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6 over West Grand Traverse Bay. The Festival Air Shows are sponsored by Northern Michigan Toyota Dealers, Cherry Capital Airport, Habour Air, Charter Communications, Sam’s Club, Schmuckal Oil Company, and Northwestern Michigan College Aviation Program.
The Blue Angels flight team demonstrates the choreographed refinements of Navy-trained flying skills while exhibiting graceful, aerobatic maneuvers like the four-plane diamond, opposing solos, and the six plane delta formation.
Traverse City, along with the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station, will prepare for a Friday ‘practice show’ featuring all Air Show performers on July 4, with official U.S. Navy Blue Angels performances during the Festival Air Show Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6. The Festival Air Show is expected to get underway at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Both Air Shows will be simulcast on WTCM AM radio.
The U.S. Blue Angels’ mission is to enhance Navy and Marine Corps recruiting efforts and to represent the naval service to the United States, its elected leadership and foreign nations. The Blue Angels serve as positive role models and goodwill ambassadors for the U. S. Navy and Marine Corps.
